Server infrastructure is hosted in the European Union and the United States. When data moves between these regions, we rely on standard contractual clauses with the hosting providers to ensure the level of protection matches your home jurisdiction, including the UK, EEA and comparable regimes. We publish the names of the providers on request and will tell you where your IP log, if any, is stored. If a provider in our chain receives a lawful request to disclose data, we document the request internally so our auditors can review the pattern annually and we can alert affected readers if the law allows.

Third parties

A short list of service providers helps us run the site: an analytics tool that counts page views without profiling individual readers, an email provider that delivers newsletter messages, and a CDN that serves static assets. None of them receive payment details, since we do not process payments. Any new tool we add appears in this list before it starts receiving data, and the cookie banner reappears so returning readers can review the change. We do not share newsletter addresses with partners, and we do not sell contact details to anyone.

What we collect

We collect anonymous page view data, approximate country based on the request IP, and the email address only if you choose to subscribe to a newsletter. We do not sell this data. We do not build cross-site profiles. We do not fingerprint devices. The exact fields are listed in a technical appendix, which is linked from this page and from the cookie banner. Where regulations such as GDPR or CCPA apply, you can ask us to show a copy of what we store about your email address, and we will respond inside the window set by the law.

How we use

Collected data is used to understand which pages help readers and which need rewriting, to send the newsletter you asked for, and to prevent spam on the contact form. We keep aggregated statistics for up to twenty-four months; the newsletter list is kept until you unsubscribe. We do not use the data to target advertising, to feed any machine-learning model, or to resell it to a data broker. If we ever decide to do any of these, we will warn readers through the cookie banner and give you a chance to opt out before the change takes effect.
